Legionella pneumophila testing with fast results in CFU

Legionella pneumophila detection and enumeration

Results in 48 hours, in CFU (Colony Forming Units)

Counting Legionella pneumophila in 48 hours

Legionella pneumophila is an ubiquitous bacterium, which means that it has the ability to grow in its natural habitat (hot water) and adapt to other environments with similar characteristics such as the human body. The latter has an ideal temperature for the growth of this pathogenic bacterium. If inhaled, Legionella pneumophila can make its way into the lungs to replicate until causing a potentially life-threatening infection: Legionnaires’ disease.

With Diamidex technology and MICA equipment, it is now possible to detect and count them after just 48 hours of incubation on Petri dishes (compared to 10 days with standard method).

Why choosing MICA Legionella?

Results reading of agar in 3 minutes

GET FASTER RESULTS

Incubation reduced to 48 hours compared to 10 days with the traditional method. Results rendering in 3 minutes.

95% SIMILARITY WITH ISO 11731

Counting only culturable Legionella pneumophila from all serogroups. Less uninterpretable & more accurate results – Counting all Legionella pneumophila micro colonies present and not just few representative ones.

SHARP DETECTION

Detection threshold of 100 CFU* of Legionella pneumophilla per litre or 0.1 CFU per mL .

* Colony Forming Units

HIGHLY PROFITABLE METHOD

A very competitive price per test (sliding scale  rates) – Non technical method & easy to use by all your technicians.

A simplified protocol for Legionella testing

The cheapest and most reliable testing method on the market! Capable of counting L. pneumophila concentration in 48 hours.

  • Perfectly harmless for the microorganisms, Diamidex’s patented molecules have been especially designed for being metabolized only by the targeted microorganisms.
  • Once absorbed, those molecules make the bacteria skins cover themselves with chemical hooks. Onto those hooks can then be plugged chemical objects, such as coloured, luminescent or fluorescent particles that can be seen at a very low concentration.
  • Bacteria covered with those particles can become visible much faster than with the traditional method.

Bacteria information

  • Legionella pneumophila bacteria are naturally present in water and wet soil. However, they are particularly found in artificial water networks: water distribution networks (domestic hot water) and cooling circuits (air cooling towers, collective air conditioning).

  • Certain conditions favour their proliferation: a temperature between 25°C and 45°C, the presence of oxygen, corrosion (metal ions: iron, zinc, aluminium), scale (calcium), and a biofilm (an organic deposit layer containing microorganisms and nutrients on which Legionella feed).

  • Therefore, all water systems with these characteristics present a risk.

  • Human infection is caused by inhalation of contaminated water. Thus, the sanitary risk zone depends on the potential propagation of microdroplets (also named aerosols) : a few meters to several tens of meters for showers, spas, misting systems, public fountains… up to several kilometers for air cooling towers.

MICA, the first smart microcolony counter on the market

An extreme sensitivity allowing to detect microorganisms at their early culturable stage

Thanks to an unmatched optical resolution among colonies counters, MICA is capable of detecting and counting microorganisms at their micro colony stage.

  • Automated Smartscan
  • Fluorescence detection and bright field

Integrated safety and traceability

MICA includes a software according to the targeted microorganism. The use of MICA is 21 CFR Part 11 compliant. The analysis history is accessible, and all data are exportable and can be integrated into a LIMS or CRM system making MICA an essential decision support tool.

A semi-automatic solution, easy to use and to implement

Designed as a turnkey solution, MICA is easy to use and to implement, by all technicians. The operator is guided step-by-step through a simplified protocol according to the targeted microorganism. The automatic counting of microcolonies ensures fewer uninterpretable results than traditional culture method, faster. No need to make several conditions (dilution, thermal shock…) to eliminate the Interferent Flora.

A smart counter easily integrated into a LEAN management system

MICA has been specifically created to meet laboratories’ and industrials’ needs to improve their productivity. Technician time savings are made thanks to a simplified protocol, including function such as repeatability of results & readings. Results are released faster to the client allowing a better microbiological workflow.
